This nine-mile circular walk travels alongside the Lower Clydach River, through peaceful woodland, onto unspoilt common land with sites of archaeological interest and spectacular views towards the Brecon Beacons.
The walk starts from the RSPB car park, and we walk along the bottom of the Cwm to the lovely sounds of the birds and the Lower Clydach River making its way down the Cwm. This is for the majority of the morning. Perhaps as we do our walk, we'll see the first signs of Autumn starting to show itself and we'll see some magnificent colours. Some limbo dancing will be required to get under some fallen trees, and your stepping over fallen trees skills will also be honed on this part of the walk. The afternoon part of the walk will see us walking on Mynydd Carnllechart, looking towards Pontardawe and some views also towards Somerset - providing visibility is good. Making our way off the hill, we were trampling down the ferns, but hopefully, these will be dying off when we do the walk.
This is a varied walk, trees, views, and I can guarantee mud. I would suggest that you bring sticks with you just in case we have to create a path through the ferns and to fend off the Gruffalo which shows itself at the very end of the walk.
On the plus side, there is a pub within 2 mins of the start of the walk.
