We start our walk at Whalley Train Station, where we meet those traveling on the 10.04 am train from Bolton.
After a brief comfort stop in Whalley we start our walk to Clitheroe. We walk past the Abbey and the English Martyrs church and head towards the river Calder and the old Roman Road before finishing the walk at Holmes Mill in Clitheroe.
After lunch, at Holmes Mill walkers can then join a second part of the walk to Clitheroe Castle viewpoint and either then leave the walk close to the Railway/bus station or continue on a circular route that takes in riverside views along the river Ribble (additional 3 miles).
There is a regular train service back to Bolton from Clitheroe. It is intended to finish the walk at Clitheroe Train Station in time for the 16.30 train back to Bolton. Those travelling from Bolton will need to purchase a return ticket to |Clitheroe (£8.40 or £6.70 with GM pass))
Both walks are level
