Overview

This walk spirits us alongside the River Dove before climbing to secluded Hanbury where you have  a chance to visit St Werburgh`s Church which has possibly the oldest Albaster tomb in England dated to the early 1300`s. Hanbury is set in low hills near a vast crater where a gypsum mine exploded in 1944. We visit the memorial which recalls the details of Britains largest explosion on 27th November 1944. We then head back to Tutbury passing its beautiful church and the castle which was a prison to Mary Queen of Scots on several occasions before her execution in 1587. Joint walk with Sandwell and Wolverhampton groups.
