West Mendip Walkers moderate 8-mile circular walk from Rose Cottage, Uphill (BS23 4SD).We start with a breath of sea air and an impressive view, then turn east on the West Mendip Way, climbing by easy stages up Bleadon Hill and along the ridge, briefly treading Roman Road before taking the woodland path that runs parallel to it. The path ends at Upper Canada where we turn northwards down Canada Combe, its slopes still showing signs of storm damage from two years ago. When the combe gives way to fields we turn westwards on a path that takes us to the village of Hutton, the frequent winner of awards for its flower displays. The path leads to a quiet back road, passes the church, and eventually becomes a path again. At Old Mixon we face half a mile of pavement through an uninspiring industrial area, before finding ourselves on a quiet but not uninteresting semi-urban footpath which takes us back to the start. There are several busy road-crossings, one set of tricky steps, but dog friendly, stile-free, and no severe hills.
