A walk finishing at the Ramblers 90th anniversary celebration by the Isle of Wight group taking place at Rookley and starting from the isle's south coast. This walk will take in some of the best views of the island. We'll have to climb a few hills to appreciate the 360-degree panoramas. See some hidden gems of manors, some railway remnants, the upper reaches of the River Medina, copses and farmland. The route may be subject to change depending on accessibility on the day, but the start and end will be unchanged.
There will be food at the end of the walk, but bring snacks to keep yourselves going, and plenty of liquids, as well as sunscreen and hats. Check weather forecast to plan suitable clothing. We shall not be passing any refreshment stops on the way, as this is rural Wight at its best. There are toilets at the start and end only. Dogs welcome, and may need to be on leads on farmland where there is livestock. There will be some walking on country lanes, so do take care. The start and finish are on the no 3 bus route. Ventnor Boots is the stop nearest the start, Rookley Village Green best for the end. The service is half hourly.
New walkers welcome. If you are new to the Ramblers you can just turn up for any of our walks, unless we specify otherwise. We invite you to come along for three walks as a non-member.
Additional Notes
Watch out for ticks and remove ASAP. If you are unsure about your ability to undertake this walk, please contact the walks leader. If you need to leave the walking group, please ensure you inform the leader or back marker.
Emergencies
It's very rare that an emergency occurs, but we may need info about
- • Any health concerns that you have
- • Any emergency contact information
We'd ask you to make sure that we have ready access to this, if needed.
Some people may wish to carry an ICE (in case of emergency) card. We have Ramblers cards for this purpose. Do discuss this subject with your walk leader if it is of interest.
