If you’re up for a grand day out this walk is for you. Taking the train from Glasgow Central we alight at the magnificent Wemyss Bay Station then hop on the ferry over to the Isle of Bute. Starting from Rothesay we will follow the West Island Way to the southern tip of the island before catching a bus back to Rothesay for the ferry and return train to Glasgow.
Mostly a flat walk with gentle undulating parts on a variety of good surfaces. We cross farmers field and skirt along the shoreline for a bit. Boots will be best if the weather is wet but otherwise good walking shoes will suffice.
Note: The finish time for the walk is an approximation.
If you wish to come on the walk you must contact the Leader in advance by email, text or phone call, but not more than two weeks in advance. Also, please provide the Leader with a mobile phone number in case arrangements change.
Walkers should not come on the walk if they have any symptoms associated with the Covid virus.
Meet outside M&S Glasgow Central Station having purchased a return ticket to Wemyss Bay
The walk will begin when we get off the ferry in Rothesay about 11:00 am
We will finish in Kilchattan Bay and hopefully catch the 15:21 or 16:17 bus to Rothesay for the 16:00 or 17:00 ferry back to Wemyss Bay. There is a small cafe/Post Office at the bus stop with picnic benches and a sea view.
