This is a delightful semi rural ramble on the outskirts of north eastern Cardiff. We start by trailing the Rhymney River dappled by the light through the trees, step into the grounds of a listed Victorian Sanatorium, gawp at the real estate in the grounds, run through a wheat field, ascend the rolling countryside to Craig Lisvane, pass horse stables and equestrian centres (with heli pad), ditto a couple more houses of millionaires, admire a walnut tree and hear the oral history of a long standing Lisvane resident.
As we return whence we came, we can discuss the sensitivity of late 20th century urban planning and trace the paths - paved and unpaved - back to the Rhymney river. ( Some of the early part of this route shows what the developers achieved in the improvement of the riverside access). At the end we can marvel at St Edeyrn's church - harking back 1200 years to its Norman roots.
Refreshment can be had in the adjacent Unicorn pub.
