Starting out from the car parking area we head up towards the village of Birtley, this is the only major climb (steep in places) of the walk. From Birtley we then descend towards Heugh where we then pick up the River Tyne Trail and follow to around High Carry House. From there we head past Low Carry House and back down to the river which we then follow along to the start point.
We have some road walking, open field walking which in areas is quite tussocky and overgrown and a section along a woodland path beside the river. There are six stiles, two of which are a bit wobbly, but safe to use with care. On pre walk (06/08) one of the fields had cattle in it but they caused no problems.
Refreshment : Hydration stops if required and lunch stop. There are Cafes and Public houses in the centre of Wark.
