West Mendip Walkers moderate 9 miles circular walk from Wells Town Hall, (BA5 2RB). The walk sets off round the Bishop’s Palace Moat and crosses the B3139 into Tor Hill Lane. We'll make a steep ascent into Tor Hill Woods and then continue on across The Lyatt. At the top of the Lyatt, we'll follow the footpath through fields and copses to emerge onto Chilcote Lane. We follow this quiet lane for a mile or so, passing through East Horrington, crossing the Old Frome Road and on into West Horrington. We enter Biddle Coombe and follow the stream uphill. We cross the stream twice and proceed up a wet track towards open fields . We then cross the A39 and start descending along the bridleway towards Pen Hill Farm. We follow the track past Pen Hill Farm (NB lots of pheasants around) and into open fields then ascend to an overgrown footpath that emerges on to the Old Bristol Road at Ivy Cottage. Crossing this road we descend and then follow the stream, again crossing it several times, to come out into Tynings Lane. We cross the lane and follow the footpath towards Milton Hill where we pick up the Monarch Way, which we then follow back into Wells. Only a couple of stiles on this walk but expect it to be wet in places.
