A circular walk of open moorland, footpaths and tracks, taking in a total of seven tors. We first head southwards to Pew Tor then turning eastwards and nothwards, via Merrivale to Little Mis Tor and Great Mis Tor.
We then descend the northwestern slopes of Great Mis Tor to cross the River Walkham and follow the river downstream to a location some wild swimmers might know.
Then we go up the hillside to Roos Tor and across to Great Staple Tor and Middle Staple Tor. Finally we cut back to the northwest to visit the Tor That Is Made From Something Else, namely Cox Tor before returning to the car park.
In clear weather, Cox Tor commands a fantastic view of the Tavy and Tamar valleys and Bodmin Moor beyond.
No toilets at the car park, but there often is an ice-cream van.
If there has been heavy rain before the walk, I'll alter the route so we can avoid the river crossing.
I've graded the walk as moderate because most of the terrain is relatively comfortable by Dartmoor standards, with a just a few stretches of rocky or tussocky ground, one steep climb and several more gentle climbs.
