Starting from outside the old (now closed) Ilchester Arms, we will ascend Conical Hill and then retrace our steps to Shute Lane to observe the sandstone carvings up to Quarry Cross, where depending on the water level we will take one of two routes to North Chideock. We hope to visit the Chideock Martyrs museum. We will walk down into Chideock and ascend Golden Cap via Gabriels Church and Ledge to our lunch spot on the summit of Golden Cap.
We shall descend into Seaton and then follow the Coast Path to the summit of our third peak, Thorncombe Beacon. From here we will descend into Eype and take some quiet footpaths back to our start point, possibly stopping off at the New Inn if we have time.
There is free street parking around the church at the start of the walk, please park considerately and consider car share. At the end of the walk we will pass the New Inn in Eype (closes at 4pm) depending on time we may stop for refreshment.
Although the walk is only 17 km (10.5 miles) there are 730 m of ascent (2,400 feet of ascent). There are four main ascents. Paths are mainly good but may well be wet and slippery, I'd recommend boots and walking poles if you use them. There are a small number of stiles.
We walk at a fairly brisk pace and I would hope with stops to return to out start point by approximately 3.45pm. Please bring appropriate clothing and a packed lunch.
There are public toilets at Seaton as well as a pub and a shop.
