This is an attractive walk in the South Downs. There will be ascents and descents, and some great views - to the Isle of Wight if the conditions are right. There are short sections on minor roads, but we will be mainly on paths and tracks, including a short stretch of the South Downs Way. We will start from the old railway station at West Meon, walk along the old railway for a bit, climb Beacon Hill from Warnford, walk down into Kilmeston and then across to Hinton Ampner.
Please bring provisions for a late morning break and a lunch stop, probably in the Hinton Ampner grounds. There's a chance of an optional pub stop after lunch. And we will walk back into West Meon past the Thomas Lord pub - you'll have the chance for refreshments then or after you've dumped your kit and taken your boots off. Well managed dogs are welcome: I expect that we will be in fields with livestock at various point.
