The walk begins by heading north out of the village of West Woodburn, crossing the River Rede and following the riverbank down towards East Woodburn. It continues along the hillside north of the Lisles Burn, crosses the burn at Linnheads and returns to East Woodburn on the south side of the valley, visiting a section of the dismantled Wannie Line railway on the way. It finishes with a short section along the road to West Woodburn, stopping off to visit the remains of the fishponds constructed by the de Lisle family as part of the Hallyards Estate, first recorded in 1293.
Mostly good paths and single track roads with some stone stiles and one or two rougher stretches. Gentle inclines and open views. Grade: Moderate.
Coffee and lunch stops during the walk. Tea/coffee and snacks are available at the Bay Horse at the end of the walk.
