11 mile, moderate walk with 1450 ft of ascent, through a mixture of woodland, forestry tracks and open grassland, with a few shallow streams to cross. Walk heads North largely along forest tracks to Alfred's Tower at the North of the NT Stourhead Estate, and then heads East across open grassland to "St Peter's Pump" marking the source of the River Stour, and on South through "Six Wells Bottom". It then rises through woodland to join the "Stour Valley Way" with woodland and open fields, and continues over several valleys to return to the start point.
Majority of the stiles have traps for dogs, but one stile does not and will require a lift over. Well-behaved dogs should be able to be off-the -lead for most of the walk, with only a few - very short - sections on minor roads.
Alfred's Tower opened in 1772 stands 49m high and is a folly on the edge of the border with Wiltshire, on the Stourhead estate. The tower stands on Kingsettle Hill and belongs to the National Trust. It is designated as a Grade I listed building.
