Overview

A short leisurely walk through Popples Common and into the beautiful woodland of Hardcastle Crags. We will stop for coffee or lunch by the waterside at Gibson Mill, then through the wintry landscape to return to our start in the ancient hamlet of Slack Top.

There will be a moderate descent and ascent bookending the walk. As ever Calderdale can be wet and a little muddy underfoot in the winter months so waterproof clothing and boots are recommended. Bring a packed lunch or purchase from the National Trust cafe at Gibson Mill. 

Well-behaved dogs on a lead are welcome.

Roadside parking is available. We will meet outside the disused Heptonstall Baptist Cemetery in the village of Slack. Unfortunately public transport is not available on Sundays. Please consider carsharing.
