Accounts Report 2024

We end the year with £2792.86 in our bank account. We still getting money from Ramblers Holidays a sum of 250.00.

My main concern is we not spending enough, at the moment our reserves are 129%, HQ would like them below 100%. They could decide not to give us our yearly support, which was last year £605.05.

Membership Secretary’s Report for Annual General Meeting on 10 November 2024

Membership Numbers 2023/4

 

October 2023: 506 Members                   37 Associate & Affiliate Members

October 2024: 530 Members                    36 Associate & Affiliate Members

 

In the last year, 72 new members joined the group, including those transferring from other groups. Since November 2023 48 left the group, including those whose membership lapsed, or did not renew their subscriptions, and those who transferred to other groups.

Membership Profile:

Gender: Female 43%, Male 35%, unknown 22%

Age profile: Under 60 8.84%, 60-69 14.49%, 70-79 26.16%, 80+ 11.87%. unknown 38.63%

 

Earlier this year Ramblers Central Office took the decision to cease production of sets of member labels for use by local groups. The Committee looked at the implications of this for us, and reluctantly decided not to continue with printing and circulating paper copies of the Walks Programme.

 

Our membership has remained relatively stable in the last year.  I would like to give a very warm welcome to our new members, and to those who have joined us from other Ramblers Groups.

Report of Walks Organiser for 2024 Annual General Meeting on 10th November 2024

 During the year ended 30th September 2024 the programmes circulated to members and associates included 68 walks, 7 down on the previous year. In addition there were 20 ‘pop-up’ walks, bringing the total to 88. Because of the increasing difficulty in finding leaders, no fewer than 33 of the walks were joint with other Ramblers groups – Kensington, Chelsea & Westminster and Hammersmith, Fulham & Wandsworth – 5 up on last year. And there was quite a lot of travel disruption from strikes, short-notice planned engineering works and last-minute train cancellations, leading to reduced numbers on some walks.

 

In addition to the walks programme, the group also arranged a New Year break in Folkestone from the 28th December to the 2nd January with 9 participants, only 3 of whom stayed for all 5 nights. Although there was some rain, the weather was not too bad and all enjoyed the walks along stretches of the coast and North Downs Way.

 

And between Friday 26th July and Friday 2nd August a party of 27 spent 5 or 7 nights based at the Newcastle-upon-Tyne campus of Northumbria University. The weather throughout was generally dry and warm and the walks programme included stretches of coast and Hadrian’s Wall as well as other attractive areas of countryside in the locality. The Northumbria Walking Group were very helpful and organised two of the walks.

 

Finally, I should like to remind you that this year’s New Year break will take place from Monday 30th December to Saturday 4th January in Weymouth, which is a great centre for walking.
