What we do

Join our sociable walking group

Stag Walkers aims to encourage younger people in the area to get to know each other, get fit, stay healthy and have some fun.

We are a very sociable group and our members have a variety of interests which can produce some engaging discussions on walks, whether it’s about recent holidays, the weekend’s sports results or the latest streaming hit.

On most walks we stop for a packed lunch together and after the walk have an optional drink at a nearby pub or tea-room.

We also enjoy taking part in other activities as a group. In recent years we've enjoyed kayaking, bowling, fireworks displays, outdoor cinema and pub / restaurant nights out, alongside the occasional weekend away.

Where we walk

Our central location is North Hertfordshire and most of our walks take place within an hour from Hitchin. We often begin walks in towns such as Hitchin, St Albans or Biggleswade before heading out into the countryside.

Many walks are accessible by public transport or by car-sharing which can be arranged informally through our Meetup group.

Popular walks include strolls through local bluebell woods, hikes across the hills of the easterly Chilterns, and river walks alongside the Lea, the Ivel or the Cam.

Weekends away

Run occasionally during the year, Stag Walkers arranges trips away for members to walk, explore and enjoy a weekend of activities.

In the past few years we've organised trips to places such as Cheddar Gorge and the Mendips, the North Norfolk coast and the Shropshire Hills.

We are very active on Facebook and Meetup, where we share photos of our walks and also news about Stag Walkers and Ramblers. Our group website has some useful resources if you're considering walking with us for the first time or thinking of volunteering a walk.

If you have any questions feel free to contact us. We look forward to seeing you soon!
