Dunstanburgh Castle is impressive and seen from much of the walk and Low Newton is an unusual place worth visiting as is Craster. Walking by the sea is also a highlight of the walk. I found it very crowded even mid week in September. I found that although there were minor variations at the ends it was basically a linear walk.

Stunning views, dominated by Dunstanburgh (if you walk towards it) and perfect for those who enjoy a good pint (The Ship at Newton or The Jolly Fisherman at Craster) and/or a bit of history (Dunstanburgh, English Heritage site). Kittiwakes and Razorbills nest in abundance on tthe cliff face at Dunstanburgh during June/July. We walked the opposite way - towards the castle from Craster, over the dunes towards Newton Ponds and back along the beach towards Dunstanburgh, then completing the figure of 8 along the escarpment. That way you get the best views towards the imposing 14th century ruins of Dunstanburgh which is spectacular, just as the architect intended.
