This had the makings of a lovely walk but by the end of stage 2 the instructions bore no resemblance to what we saw in front of us. Because it is a route that does not follow marked paths, it was not obvious what the instructions were referring to. We ended up returning to the South Downs Way and using the map to do a route through to Folkington and then Wilmington. It was more or less the second part of the walk but we didn’t go into Deep Dean, which was a shame. However, the views were spectacular and this is certainly a lovely part of the South Downs for walking, and less busy than some walks in the area.
