Mar forest on the south eastern slopes of the Cairngorms consists of three pinewoods occupying Glen Derry, Glen Quoich and Glen Luibeg. Owned by the National Trust for Scotland, Mar estate is being managed primarily for conservation.
This is a dramatic and popular hillwalking area. There are several easy to moderate routes from the car parks at the Linn of Dee and Linn of Quoich to see some of the old pine. More demanding routes for the experienced hill walker lead into the Cairngorms on the old cattle droving roads the Lairig Ghru and the Glen Feshie drove road. Braemar offers catering and accomodation.
