Dava Way

Links with: Moray Coast Trail, Speyside Way

The Dava Way links the historic towns of Forres in Moray with Grantown-on-Spey in the Cairngorms National Park. Almost all of the route follows the old Highland Railway line and so is off-road and away from traffic.

The route passes through farmland and woodland but there is also the Dava summit at 1050 feet (320m) to climb and the Dava moor to cross. If you cross the moor on a clear day you will be rewarded with views to both the north and south where the Cromdale Hills and the Cairngorm Mountains dominate the skyline.

The walk can be done in a day but many will prefer to break it into two or three stages. The route also provides the final link in the chain between two of Scotland’s other great long distance walks, the Speyside Way, which starts at Aviemore in the Cairngorms, and the Moray Coast Trail, which the Dava Way links to at Forres. Between them these three routes make up the circular Moray Way.
