Waypoints

1

From the Promenade walk up Nant y Gamar Rd along the side of the field and school. At the crossroads turn right along Tan y Bryn Rd. About 400 metres along here, just before the road turns right downhill, there is a lane going up on the left by a footpath sign and an unsuitable for vehicles sign. Go up this lane. At a white building the tarmac stops and it becomes a footpath. Below you on the right you can see the tall red brick chimneys of the Blind Veterans UK centre, which is based in a Victorian Philanthropists workers hopital. Continue up the path past a stone step stile with kissing gate to its right. As you past a building below you on the right there a great views of Llandudno and the Great Orme. Just after this the path goes round an old quarry, then eventually meets another path just below a stone wall. Turn left here, do not go down to the kissing gate you can see below you. Stay next to the wall going uphill until the next kissing gate. The main road at the start can be busy but there is a traffic light controlled crossing near the public toilets.

2

Turn left again away from the kissing gate and follow a path that runs diagonally up the hillside. Halfway up this path you will see a marker post near the top. This is the steepest part of the walk and can be a little slippery, but the path is clear and there are great views if you need a rest. This is a limestone grassland which has lots of wild flowers in the spring. At the marker post turn right to the top and come to a wall. Take the path nearest the wall, dropping down through bracken and brambles to reach the end of a track by the entrance to a house and garden. Continue on down this track for nearly 200 metres. You then reach a double wooden field gate. Turn right onto the tarmac road for about 150 metres. Here the road bends to the right with a path going off on the left following a hedge line. Don't take this, but the path to the right of it. This is mainly grassy going through bracken and gorse rising to a small summit with more great views. At the top veer down on the grassy path descending towards a telegraph pole. At the pole the path narrows through some tall gorse to reach a stone wall which you follow downhill to a kissing gate near the corner of two walls. This is a less steep route but you miss many of the best views. Go through the kissing gate and soon turn left onto a wider path that goes behind the school.(A) At a kissing gate go into the field then take the path on the left up the hill, beside and then through the wood. At the top follow the wall path to the right to reach the kissing gate near the corner of two walls.

3

Through this gate the path continues downhill until the wall ends. Here there is another kissing gate leading into a wood. Follow the higher path through the woods noting that the path here cuts off the corner of the route of the public path shown on the map.The path goes through a kissing gate before reaching another kissing gate at the rear garden of a house below you on the right. Immediately turn sharp left up hill.If you stayed on the path you could explore the village of Penrhynside which has a couple of traditional pubs.

4

When the path forks (with a waymark pointing right) keep to the left. Pass a farm gate and keep to the path with fields on its left, downhill through a kissing gate and onto a tarmac lane. Follow the lane downhill round a right hand bend, behind a school, to join Bodafon Road. Turn right and go to the T junction, then turn left and almost immediately left again following a blue cycle sign on to a path behind the houses. Keep going all the way down to the end of this path where you join an estate road. This leads to the main road and turn left to return to the start.
