Getting there

By car: If coming from the south take the A6024 to Holme village, turn left into Fieldhead Lane and follow lane for nearly 1 mile. The car park is situated on left. If travelling from the north take the A6024 from Holmfirth into Holmbridge village, turning right at signpost to Digley Reservoir. Head uphill on to Bank Top Road then turn left along reservoir wall. Car park is on right immediately to south of reservoir. There is also a second, larger, car park on the north side of the reservoir, and the walk can be started/ finished here (Waymark 2).

By public transport:  Buses run from Huddersfield and Holmfirth to both Holmbridge and Holme. This walk passes bus stops in both villages so the walk can be started/ finished in either village. For details visit www.wymetro.com

Waypoints

1

From the car park go through the gate at the end and follow the path above the southern side of the reservoir. Go down some rough steps and across Bilberry Reservoir dam. Turn left uphill and then right to follow the track and footpaths round the northern side of the reservoir to a car park. Take care as the descent to Bilberry Dam is stepped but very rocky and uneven.

2

Turn right through a gate, go down steps and along path to emerge onto the road just before Digley Dam. Turn right, cross the road junction, head downhill and go through a small gate on the right. Follow the path down through trees to the bottom right hand corner to join a metalled roadway. Turn left and walk to the A6024 in Holmbridge. Turn right across the bridge over the River Holme, cross the road and then go left along a road (signposted to a picnic area). Keep right at a junction and continue up the steep Bank Lane.

3

As Bank Lane becomes Brownhill Lane, turn left at footpath sign and head up the roadway to go through a garden gate to the right of house no 21A. Continue uphill with a stream on your right. At a stile on the left bear right along a wooded clough. Cross a wall, turn right, go over the stream, and up to go left skirting a field to reach a stone stile and gate. Turn right along a track, which soon becomes a path and keep ahead to reach and cross a stile at the corner of a wood. Turn sharp left on a path up to a track and turn right downhill to bottom.

4

Here turn left passing houses to cross the dam of Riding Wood Reservoir and follow lane to a stile on the right (opposite gated entrance to Yateholme Reservoir). Cross the stone stile, and walk straight downhill between trees to go through a gap in the wall at the bottom. Turn left down to cross the footbridge below. Go right uphill above the stream keeping right above and along Ramsden Reservoir. Follow the path as it goes gradually uphill and through a gap in the wall and then turn right downhill. At the path junction turn left and soon enter a valley to cross a footbridge by a waterfall, and then up the opposite side to enter a field. Bear left, uphill, over two adjoining stone stiles taking you left up to the road at Holme.

5

Turn left on to the A6024 going past the access into Fieldhead Lane and turn right at a cobbled road junction. Go along Meal Hill Road bearing right. At a bend go through a gate on the right to follow the trodden path (Kirklees Way) over several stiles eventually bearing right. Turn right to rejoin the path followed early in the walk and retrace your steps back to the car park. Take care as there are no pavements along the road (A6024).
