Start:
Mardley Heath, Rabley Heath, Potters Heath and Knebworth Park
We start by walking through the lovely Mardley Heath Nature Reserve woodlands, through Rableyheath and Old Knebworth and into Knebworth Park.
We walk past Knebworth House and the church of St Mary and St Thomas of Canterbury, along the tree lined avenue before circling around the edge of the estate passing the Cenotaph. The resident herd of Red and Sika deer can often be seen here.
Leaving Knebworth Park we carry on along Slip Lane, through New Wood, along Sally Deard’s Lane and on towards Codicote (Sally Deards was believed to have been a 17th/18th century witch who was chased by a gamekeeper and turned herself into a deer).
We then head east to the renowned Spokes Cafe where we can take a break with the option of tea/coffee and cakes before we continue through Pottersheath and finally back to Mardley Heath.

Off to Great Offley!
This is a scenic walk with some far reaching views and open countryside. We start from Preston and head northwest to Great Offley which stands on a high ridge. The village has historical connection to King Offa of Mercia and is believed to have been the site of his palace. We can take a break here at the Red Lion or in the grounds of the much extended St Mary Magdalene church.
We then head north east down a steep incline to join Windmill Lane to Charlton, before turning south back to Preston via Wain Wood, the site of Bunyan's Dell where John Bunyan is recorded to have preached, often to large congregations.

Circular walk from Walkern, Hertfordshire, via Cromer and Weston

Start:
The Rising Sun -- in Memory of Mark
The Rising Sun PH at Halls Green near Weston was a favourite pub of Mark Westley, a regular walker with the Uttlesford Ramblers and long-term stalwart of the Hertfordshire Ramblers who sadly and unexpectedly passed away a year ago. It seems befitting to walk from The Rising Sun near the anniversary of his passing and have an (optional) lunch and pint (or other drink of your choosing) in his memory.

Start:
Hitchin, Ickleford and Oughtonhead with the YPA (6 miles/10km - Leisurely, Booking Required)
This walk is for up to 30 people, including the leader (with 15 reserved for Stag Walkers and 15 for the YPA).
This short walk sets out from Hitchin station, passing through nature reserves, crossing farmland on footpaths and tracks and feature some urban walking as well. The route will be mostly on the flat with a small hill towards the end of the route.
On this walk Stag Walkers will be teaming up with the YPA, an events and social club for young professionals working at Airbus in Stevenage. There will be 15 spaces for Stag Walkers and 15 spaces for YPA members (this balance may be adjusted based on demand).
The walk will start at Hitchin railway station and first head to Walsworth Common, one of the two commons in Hitchin crossed by the River Purwell. Leaving the common, we will follow the Purwell as best we can down Cadwell Lane, crossing under the East Coast Main Line to arrive at Burymead Springs. Though small, this local nature reserve features reedbed habitats, which are now rare in Hertfordshire, which support a variety of wildlife; there has even been evidence of otters in the area.
Our route then continues along the course of the old Hitchin-Bedford rail line, the evidence of which can still be seen, including the infamous local landmark Gerry's Hole. We will then arrive at the village of Ickleford, where we will take a short break on the village green.
Leaving Ickleford we will join the HOOP (Hitchin Outer Orbital Path), which will take us across farmland with views to the Chiltern Hills. This will bring us to Oughtonhead Common, where we will stop for lunch. This local nature reserve features a range of wildlife habitats and is maintained using traditional grazing by English Longhorn cattle (which we might spot as we walk through the reserve).
Our walk continues through the reserve and out across fields to the byway of Gray's Lane, which we will follow back into the centre of Hitchin. From there we will head to our finishing point back at the station. After the walk there is the option of a post-walk drink at one of the nearby pubs.

- Distance:
- 6.5 miles

Start:
Watton-at-Stone and Datchworth Loop (6.5 miles/10.5km, Leisurely, Booking Required)
This walk is for up to 25 people, including the leader.
The route is across mostly flat terrain and takes us through a mixture of picturesque countryside landscapes.
We’ll start from Watton-at-Stone train station. From there, we will follow a footpath out of the village and onto open fields and farmland before a gentle incline leads us onto a secluded woodland trail.
After a short stretch along a country lane, we will reach the outskirts of Datchworth village. Before heading into the village for our lunch stop, we will pause for a short break by All Saints Church. The route then takes us through a residential area and onto the village green, where we will stop for a lunch break for approximately 30 minutes to have our packed lunches and/or buy a quick drink/snack at the local corner shop, coffee shop or pub.
After lunch, we will continue along the scenic Back Lane woodland trail, passing horse paddocks, a large duck pond, and more open farmland. The route then loops back toward Watton-at-Stone, where we will walk through a residential area to return to the station.
There is an optional pub stop at The Bull (113 High St, Watton-at-Stone, Hertford SG14 3SB) following the walk.
