We walk to the ruined 12th century Benedictine Monastery and stroll round the peaceful grounds. We then walk in the Dearne Valley Country Park which was created from reclaimed colliery land. Finally we take in the disused Barnsley Main Colliery and walk around the winding gear and buildings which are maintained by volunteers.

Wombwell to Worsbrough Mill and Back Again
Walk starts from the free car park of Bradberry Balk Lane, Wombwell. Heading towards Manvers on the Dove Valley Trail (DVT)/TPT then along the disused Brampton Canal which is part of the Barnsley Boundary Walk (BBW). We then follow footpaths with some road walking to the car park at Wombwell Wood passing over and under the A6195 Dearne Valley Way. Its then through farmland to Blacker Hill and through woodland to Worsbrough Mill after crossing the A61. Lunch at Worsbrough Mill where the cafe may be open and a bit further up the road the Ship Inn for those desperate for a pint. Its then back onto the DVT/TPT to Swaithe Bridge then its through fields to the A633 then back onto the DVT/TPT to our start point.

A walk of two halves. Firstly through woodland to Worsbrough Mill which has a cafe and toilets, then via the TransPennine Trail and footpaths to Dodworth.
Catch the 09:35 Northern Huddersfield Train from Sheffield as far as Wombwell.
Woodland paths may be rough and muddy.
Just one stile. No real climbs.

Starting from the pretty village of Cawthorne, we take in its lovely 17th century parish church which contains many Pre-Raphaelite features. After crossing fields and footpaths, we arrive at Hoylandswaine church where we have a short lunch stop. Our return gives wonderful views over Barnsley and we enter Silkstone where the parish church has interesting gargoyles and a monument to the 26 children who died in the Huskar Pit disaster in 1838.
