The Facebook group 'Just Beat it' have teamed up with the Ramblers wellbeing walks, Medway Health Walks and the Public Health team in Medway to offer a walking support group.
We are a casual group of walkers for the local community and are always exploring and walking while offering a listening ear or catching up on the local what's on.
The walking group meets on the 1st and 3rd Monday of the month outside Hoo Church for a 10am leave time. We then head over to the local village institute for a tea and coffee giving us a chance to discuss anything.
We have four walking routes that we follow, each with shortcuts if required and circular in design meaning we always return to the start point. Depending upon the overall ability of the group on the day, we will make a decision regarding which route to follow. Generally we will walk for approximately 60 minutes.
So why not join us and discover the changing faces of the river, the colours, the sights, the smells and the surrounding marshlands that have attracted writers like Dickens and painters including Turner and Hogarth.
All our walking routes over look the River Medway for some spectacular landscape photos and views. On our walking routes you will see highlights such as:
- The decommissioned power stations
- Derelict military forts
- Walk part of the England Coastal Path and Saxon Shore Way
- World war II pillboxes
- St. Werburgh Church
- Marshland with it's array of bird life
- These visitors include: Fieldfares, Redwings, Bramblings, Bewick’s and Whooper Swans and many kinds of ducks, geese and wading birds.
You can also Join us on Facebook for more activities which are across Medway and Gravesend JUST BEAT IT.
