Overview

From Kirkland's peaceful church of St Lawrence we walk on farm roads with outstanding views of the Pennines to the remote farmhouse at Wythwaite. Here the slopes of the delightfully-named Grumply Hill rise to Cross Fell the highest point in the Pennines. On our return we encounter the impressve-sounding 'Hanging Walls of Mark Anthony' - cultivation terraces dating back to the Iron Age.
