Our new fortnightly Wellbeing Walking Group in Babbacombe and St, Marychurch, Torquay, aims to support our community in increasing activity levels, in connecting with each other and with the environment, and ultimately helping to strengthen our mental health and wellbeing.
The walk will start and finish at Cary Park Tennis Club, meeting at 2pm for a 2.15pm start and will be about an hour in length. On route we will be taking in the sights, sounds and smells of Babbacombe and St Marychurch, which includes a stroll through Tessier Gardens, St Marychurch Precinct and along the beautiful Babbacombe Downs.
We will do all we can to make you feel welcome and comfortable, giving you the opportunity to benefit from exercise out in the fresh air, connecting with others and the positive effect that spending time outside in our wonderful environment can have. Increasing our activity levels and connecting with others can be a key strategy in lifting mood and reducing anxiety. Joining a walking group can be a wonderful way to start, one step at a time!
If you come along for a walk with us it will also give you the opportunity to have a chat about you’re general wellbeing, benefit from peer support, and to discuss our range of wellbeing groups, courses, workshops and activities provided by BeWell@StepOne.
The Wellbeing walk is facilitated by BeWell@StepOne part of Step One, Devon's Mental Health Charity.
How Register for the walk
Pre-registration for the walk is advised, as this will help us get an idea of the numbers to expect, and allow us to notify you of any cancellations due to weather or Walk Leader holiday/illness etc.
To register visit: https://www.steponecharity.co.uk/bewell-peer-support-groups
Pre-Registration is not a prerequisite however, and we can help to register you on attending (so you can just turn up on the day).
Further recommendations and walk information:
Please remember to bring suitable footwear and clothing and some water to keep hydrated. We will walk at a gentle pace allowing us to be as accessible as possible for all abilities and will do our best to pace the walk to the needs of our slowest walker where at all possible.
If you do have any physical health conditions that would be adversely impacted by gentle to moderate walking, then please check with your GP before participating. Please also bring a completed ICE card with you in case of emergency.
Please note: The walk is for adults only.
Our first walk will be on Friday 1st September and will be fortnightly thereafter.
