Overview

Join us fortnightly for a circular wellbeing walk around Whittlesey. We'll be walking every 2nd and 4th Monday of the month!

This is a social walk to meet and chat to others, and will walk at a moderate pace as well as some routes being accessible for wheelchairs, scooters and buggies. Everyone is welcome!

Route 1- The Bower

This route will go from town, past the St Mary's Church and then down the Bower path, returning back to town via Station road.

The walk will be about 50-60 minutes, depending on the pace of the group on the day. There are rest stops available on the route, the route is pathed but can be uneven in places. All crossing include drop kerbs but the paths aound the bower may be uneven.

This route has a few optional routes depending on the walkers and weather on the day. This includes going around the Manor field, or going further down the river and returning along station road. These options require some non pathed grass track areas. These will only be picked if all walkers are able to take these paths, or if the group can safely split (depending on walk leaders on the day), so no one is left behind.

Route 2 - The short Heritage walk

This route will go from town, past the St Mary's Church and then around the local Whittlesey Heritage Walk, returning to the town centre. Stopping at various heritage sites of interest and the heritage boards that are found on the route for information.

The walk will be about 45-50 minutes, depending on the pace of the group on the day. There are rest stops available on the route, the route is pathed but can be uneven in places. All crossing include drop kerbs.

Route 3 - The longer Heritage Walk (shortened)

This route will go through the town center to the north of the town up to Bassenhally Road and then around back to town. Taking in a number of the Heritage boards along the way such as Arnolds Lane and Clay Gate. Then coming back into the center via Church Street and Thorofare Lane.

This walk will be about 45-55 minutes, depending on the pace of the group on the day. There are rest stops and benches available on the route, the route is pathed but can be uneven in places. All crossing include drop kerbs.

Route 4 - Blackbush Drove

This route starts through the town via St Marys Church green area, to London Road and then Church street. Then heading out of the town via Brigatte West along the river, continue along to Blackbush Drove. Walking down the drove until it is time to turn back and head back to the start point.

This route is around 50 minutes with rest stops along the way. This route is on paths but they can be uneven.

Route 5 - Jubilee Garden

A route to the north of the town. On the B1040, then onto West Delph and then Yarwells Headland and into the jubilee gardens. Going around and spending time in the gardens to then come back via the alleyway to see the “mud wall” then returning to the Buttercross.

This walk is mostly on paths, but the garden is off road on grass. Could be wet & muddy in wet conditions.

Route 6 - Washes South Gates (only available when the road is closed)
