Waypoints

1. From The Square in Grantown-on-Spey, walk up Seafield Avenue next to Co-op. Keep going past Pagoda café. After caravan park, follow lane left and under stone arch (former railway bridge). At junction of paths just beyond railway bridge, turn left, signed Beachen Woods Trails. (Energetic ramblers could choose to turn right first and follow the signed 3-mile Viewpoint Trail loop before continuing with rest of walk, but there are many fine views to come on the main walk).

2. Follow the lane as it zigzags steeply uphill. Keep following it up out of trees to Wester Dreggie Farm. Fork left at Glenbeg Estate sign towards Wester Gorton, following wide, sandy track through birch woods. Keep on along main track (ignoring left turn to gate). Approaching Wester Gorton, keep straight through gate, follow track gently downhill past house and through another gate.

3. Follow track downhill, curving left to cross stepping stones over Glenbeg Burn. Follow track left as it climbs again and continue as it becomes stone lane, curving left between bunkhouse and large barn. Continue down gravel track, over bridge and along surfaced lane as it bends right. Keep on following lane for one mile as it rises and falls past houses.

4. Walk through another stone arch under dismantled Strathspey Railway and follow lane beside stream. At T-junction, turn left on lane (parallel with A95). Continue up tarmac path and then turn right through gate and cross main road straight into lane on far side. Walk down lane to River Spey and turn left beside water.

5. Reaching little car park, turn left, walk down steps and through tunnel under A95. On far side, fork left onto path marked Kylintra Wood, keeping houses on right. Keep straight on surfaced path with stream on left to reach Grant Park Lochan. Turn left onto boardwalk opposite and follow it through field. Keep right at every junction to emerge over footbridge back onto original path and turn left. Follow fenced path past park to High Street and turn right back along pavement to The Square.
