The Ramblers enables me to enjoy walking in different areas, help maintain footpaths and meet new people. As a volunteer at the Ramblers office, I also enjoy being part of a friendly team.

Chair, Membership Secretary, Walk Leader and Ramblers office volunteer | Bicester & Kidlington Ramblers

I joined the Ramblers in 2006 when my husband no longer wished to walk. I quickly realised the need for walk leaders and now lead some 36 walks a year. This includes 24 short walks. There is a demand for short walks in my area so I set up a short walks group which has proved to be very popular and a good source of new members.

In January 2013, I helped a fellow member to set up a separate footpath working group known as Blitz and Klean. This provides me with the opportunity to help protect the countryside with other people. We enjoy the outdoors and make a great team.

In November 2013, I was elected Chair of the Bicester & Kidlington Ramblers. I enjoy working with the committee and discussing our ideas.

When I retired in 2008, I volunteered to work one day a week in the Ramblers office and have worked on various projects, the latest being Ramblers Routes. Working at the Ramblers office, I continue to use the skills that I acquired during my many years in the public sector. It also keeps me up-to-date with IT skills. Working at the Ramblers office with such a young, enthusiastic team keeps me young in heart.
