Day trip to Aviemore
27 members and spouses left Broxden P&R at 8:15 for a coach ride to Aviemore. 23 walkers were dropped off at Coylumbridge while the remainder went on to spend the day in Aviemore. The walkers had a choice of two routes through the Rothiemurchus Forest to Loch an Eilean and then on to Inverdruie and Aviemore. The longer route did a circuit of Loch and Eilean while the shorter walk cut across the northern end of the loch. Both groups arrived back in Aviemore with ample time for shopping, a cup of tea (and cake) or ice cream. We left Aviemore just before 4:00pm to arrive back in Perth at 5:20. The weather was very kind to us and everyone had a great day out.
Reports and pictures from the walks can be seen here.
Winter Lunch
30 members enjoyed a convivial lunch at the Royal George Hotel, Perth on Wednesday 9 March. It was the first opportunity we have had for a social occasion since our last Christmas lunch in 2019 and it was super to renew some acquaintances and enjoy good food. Unfortunately, Paula Bowman, who had been responsible for the organisation of the meal and liaising with the hotel had received a positive COVID test result that morning and was therefore unable to attend. We all signed a card to send to her thanking her and sending our good wishes.
Perth & District Ramblers AGM
The Perth & District group AGM was held on Tuesday 9 November at the Perth Business Centre in Glasgow Road. It was a welcome return to a face to face AGM and 22 members attended.
Away 'weekend' to Northumberland
20 members enjoyed a long weekend in Northumberland from Friday 17 September 2021 to Tuesday 21 September. We stayed at The Swan Hotel in Alnwick and walks and outings took place around Bamburgh, Craster, Kirknewton and Holy Island. More details and photos are posted here. Many thanks to Paula Bowman who did a great job planning and liaising with the hotel during several postponements. Thanks also to Cathy Creedican and Tom Reid who researched and led walks.
Group led walks With the demise (at least for the time being) of the Area programme, you will need to keep an eye on the green box on this page for planned walks as they come on stream. We are still operating a booking system as walk leaders may choose to limit numbers.
Return to group walking
The group celebrated the return to led walks with an easy 6 mile stroll around Burrelton on Monday 22 March - our first group outing of 2021. 14 walkers took part, including 5 new members who had joined the group over the past few months. It was great to welcome a mix of familiar and new faces out in the Perthshire countryside again.
Memorial service for Roger Brickell
Perth Ramblers were well represented at a memorial service in celebration of the life of Roger Brickell at St. Columba's Chuch in Crieff on Tuesday 3 March 2020.
Roger had been a very active member of Perth Ramblers since moving permanently to Scotland in 2013, leading many walks and serving on the Committee. He was also the Chairman of the Forth Valley, Fife & Tayside Area. However, his association with The Ramblers long pre-dated his move to Scotland. Roger's son Andrew gave a moving eulogy attesting to Roger's full life. He will be much missed!

PATH WORK BY PERTH RAMBLERS
Some members of the Perth & District Ramblers group recently spent a few sessions out in the fields near Guildtown, where we were installing sleeper bridges and clearing vegetation on the route of brand new core path which leads from that village down towards the Tay.
We plan to be using this path on a group ramble in January, so you'll be able to admire our handiwork!
THE WALKING PARTNERSHIP
Perth & District Ramblers has just joined The Walking Partnership. This partnership, supported by RWH Travel Limited, provides direct financial contributions to local walking groups to help with organising group walks, encouraging people to get out walking, helping to clear and improve footpaths, providing equipment to help walkers etc. Over the past 65 years, the company has given many millions of pounds to assist walking charities and conservation projects in Britain and the countries they visit on their worldwide holidays. Now we can benefit.
