Group name: Lochaber & Lorn

This group is a part of Highland & Islands Area.

We are a warm and friendly group that extends a warm welcome to all new walkers, visitors and guests and, remember, you can walk with us up to three times before you are asked to join.

Our area, Lochaber and Lorn, probably offers the best walking opportunities in the whole of the British Isles. It has many high peaks, including Ben Nevis (the highest peak in the UK), spectacular Glen Coe and many other beautiful Lochs, Glens and Mountains as well as many historic locations.

Please have a look at our walks programme here.  Choose a walk, get in touch with the walk leader and come along!

Our walks cover all ranges from leisurely walks in a glen or through woodland right up to Munros in winter conditions.

Our strenuous walks include scrambles such as the Aonach Eagach ridge in Glencoe and all of our local Munros.  We also regularly use the Corran Ferry to do leisurely and strenuous walks in Ardgour and Ardnamurchan.

Gentle walks can be found along the West Highland Way, Great Glen Way, Caledonian canal and in many local glens. The local islands of Kerrera and Lismore in Loch Linnhe are within easy reach by ferry.  Another spectacular low-level walk is along the fjord-like Loch Hourn.

Interesting days out combine a cruise along Loch Shiel or Loch Nevis with a walk.  Another is a ramble up Glen Stockdale, in Appin, with a chance to visit some of the deepest caves in Scotland.  Some walks include archaeological sites such as standing stones, hill forts, clan fortresses, such as Castle Tioram in Moidart, and 19th Century Clearance villages.

In addition, training is available from Ramblers Scotland which has a programme of training courses which include Navigation (Basic & Advanced), Mountain First Aid and Walk Leader Training.  Our group also organise training on Winter Skills, Avalanche Awareness, Night Navigation and Scrambling when there is sufficient interest.

We hope that you will join us for a walk soon and enjoy the experience of being in such a beautiful part of the world.

Don’t forget, walking is good for both your heart and your soul and as well as getting you fitter, your mental well-being is strengthened by being out there with nature.

Come and enjoy being out there, the walk and the chat.
