The Hyndburn Clog Bank Holiday 2019 three day walk

'The Clog' is a 33 mile circular walk at the centre of Lancashire's beautiful hill country. It passes through dramatic and varied countryside, from moorland to lowland, with spectacular views of the surrounding area.

 

We completed the walk Saturday 25th Sunday 26th and Monday 27th May 2019

The leaders were Brian Dave and Dawn

We have been checking the 33 mile route and putting up new signs. Dave Rawson brought his secuteurs and cleared some over grown branches.

 
On Saturday 25th nine walkers met at Plantation Street for day one of our Bank Holiday weekend walk. Dave Rawson also met us there to wish us all the best for our first day. Dave had been instrumental in the reccies and installation of many of the Clog Roundells.
After much discussion on who would drive to the start and the end of the walk, it was agreed. We finally all set off from Winfields Haslingden at 10 am for the 11 mile walk to Cock Bridge Great Harwood.
The weather was very kind to us on this day, warm and bright. The scenery was pleasant and the views from Hameldon quite spectacular.
 
Sunday 26th brought a different scene. It was very wet and we all had our waterproofs on all day. There were seven of us and despite the heavy rain we enjoyed the 12 miles walk from Cock Bridge to Belthorn. We enjoyed drinks in the Gamecock before heading home.
 
Monday 27th was the final and most enjoyable day. From Belthorn to Winfields it was 10 miles and we covered some of the Burnley and Rossendale Ways. It was warm with sunny spells and scattered showers. 
The forests and fields were splendid with fresh green growth and colourful spring wild flowers. Again we were rewarded with great views of the Lancashire countryside. 
We finished at 3.30 pm and enjoyed drinks in the Dog at Belthorn. Terry also treated us to Millionaires Shortbread and the walkers were presented with Clog Roundells as a memento of their weekend.
