Walks report from Dawn Taylor Walks Co-ordinator
What a crazy year it has been. Ramblers Central Office kept me informed of the changing rules regarding group walks and I passed this onto our members.
Initially we were only allowed to walk in groups of 6 and then larger groups were allowed from April.
We were not allowed to car share so we arranged to meet at the starting point of the walks. My thanks go to all the leaders who stepped up and made sure walkers were kept informed of meeting place every week.
Our group has continued to walk every Wednesday and Sunday and numbers have ranged from 8 to 18. We still have two groups walking on Wednesday and I also thank Brian and Robin who manage these walks by email or text every week.
Our plan for walks in 2022 is completed and thanks to Brian, Barbara, Pauline, Richard, Kathryn, Joanne, Alan and Steve for making it an excellent and varied programme.
The meeting place will continue to be Plantation St and I appeal to all of you to do your bit for the planet and car share as much as possible. The time for meeting on Sundays is on the programme.
Wednesdays will be different next year- The B group will meet at 9.30 during the winter months October to March and at 9 am from April to September. The A group will meet at 9 am all year round however from May to September will meet at 8 am on the first Wednesday of the month to give the opportunity to travel further afield into for example the Lake District or North Yorkshire.
Web –site report
I have continued to update the website with the changes taking place and I add the Wednesday walks every week. Again it’s been a bit crazy and there has been more to do this year.
The 2022 programme is on the website- please be aware that we will not be printing a copy. I will email all members for whom I have an address so it can be printed out if needed. Please check the website regularly for any changes which may happen.
I would like to take this opportunity to advise everyone that this will be my last year as walks co-ordinator and Web-master . In December 2022 I will be taking up the role of President of Church and Oswaldtwistle Rotary and will therefore need to dedicate my time to the activities of that club. I have enjoyed planning the walks and the programme. I will continue to lead walks and join on Wednesdays and Sundays. I wanted to give advance notice so that there is time to find a replacement. I am sure someone will step up for this.
Thanks again to all leaders for their support.
