During the pandemic, this page has provided updates on what government restrictions mean for walking and Ramblers activities. Restrictions have eased considerably - however we are continuing to monitor the situation and will keep this page up to date, particularly in relation to the new Omicron variant.

Whenever you’re out and about, have fun, keep safe and be considerate to fellow walkers. Always follow the Countryside Code when in England and Wales, and the Outdoor Access Code when in Scotland. Remember you can use Ramblers Routes to discover local walks, close to home.

Are you a Ramblers volunteer? New guidance for group walks and path maintenance can now be found at the links below.

You can find the latest information on the UK government website. If using public transport to go walking, face coverings are mandatory.

  • Informal walks with family & friends can take place in groups of any size.
  • Ramblers group walks can take place in groups of any size – but check with your local group to find out if you need to book. Car-sharing and coach rambles can take place.
  • Path maintenance can take place – please check with your local group.
  • Other Ramblers activities can take place – please check with your local group. We recommend events, training or committee meetings should be held outdoors or online where possible. Face coverings are required in most indoor public settings from 10 December, and on public transport. If planning to share transport or meet indoors, it is recommended to also take a lateral flow test beforehand.
