Everyone is welcome. You will meet people from a wide range of backgrounds with one thing in common – we all like walking in company.
What Do We Do?
Walking and Chatting
We organise walks within an area covering Surrey and parts of West Sussex and Hampshire. Either Saturday or Sunday there is at least one walk with a lunch stop, averaging 8 to 9 miles and occasionally longer. During the week the walk is most often a morning ramble of 5 to 6 miles on a Wednesday, with an option for lunch at the end. Click on the “Walks Programme” button on the left for more information.
Eating, Drinking and Chatting
We hold occasional socials, often with a short (optional) walk beforehand.
Local Footpaths
A key function of the Group is to lobby the authorities about their responsibilities for local footpaths, report problems and be involved in footpath planning issues. A few times a year some of the Group roll up their sleeves for a footpath maintenance day.
Holidays
Someone in the Group normally organises a walking holiday each year, either in the UK or elsewhere in Europe.
Am I Fit Enough?
If you are concerned that a particular walk may be too long or hilly for you or have a health issue that you think might impair you enjoyment of a walk, do telephone the walk leader beforehand. He or she will be happy to talk about the route in more detail to help you decide whether or not it is suitable for you.
Can I Bring My Dog?
Dogs under control are welcome, but do check with the leader beforehand about possible difficulties with stiles and other possible obstacles. If bringing a dog is not advisable this will be said in the walk detail on the programme of walks.
I’m Not a Member of Ramblers
You do not have to be a member of the Ramblers’ Association to try us out. We hope you will enjoy the companionship and exercise and so decide to join by emailing membership@guildfordramblers.org.uk
