What is Woking Ramblers – Woking Ramblers is one of 16 walking groups in the Surrey Area of the national Ramblers organization. We have over 200 group members.
What about footpath maintenance – Woking Ramblers work with Surrey County Council to help maintain footpaths, replace damaged stiles with kissing gates and monitor footpath diversion applications plus anything that affects where we walk.
What about social activities – Woking Ramblers offer its members occasional social events and sometimes group holidays.
What about volunteer opportunities – Members have the option to become more actively involved with the group by leading walks, general support and the occasional working party to help maintain footpaths.
What about dogs – The Ramblers encourages all walking groups to allow dogs on walks, although some walks aren’t ideal. Registered Assistance Dogs are allowed on any walk. Always check the guidance for each walk on our website.
What about financial benefits – Members receive benefits such as discounts at some stores and civil liability insurance on Ramblers walks.
What about car sharing – Our group doesn’t currently have any formal public car sharing arrangements to or from walks.
What clothing should I wear – Advice is provided at the Ramblers website in the section on Walks difficulty.
Why walk – Walking is a healthy physical activity that has numerous benefits. It can help improve mental and physical health, requires no expensive specialist equipment and is socially beneficial.
When do you walk – We aim to offer two walks a week – sometimes more. Start times vary and are the actual departure times so arrive earlier to get booted up.
How do I join – Non-members are welcome to try out a walk for free before deciding to join. To join our group, click on Join the Ramblers and become a member of Woking Group in the red pane on this page.
How difficult are the walks – Our walks are graded for difficulty and are mostly easy, leisurely or moderate.
How far do you walk – We typically walk 5-7 miles on a weekday morning, and at weekends a mix of similar half-day or all day 10-12 miles—sometimes further.
How fit do I need to be – Guidance is provided at the Ramblers website in the section on Walks difficulty. Our walks are mostly easy, leisurely or moderate—we won’t leave anyone behind!
How much does it cost – Members pay a modest annual subscription. Details are provided on the Ramblers website at the Become a member section.
How do I try a walk – We warmly welcome guests to try out a walk for free and Ramblers from other groups to join our walks. No booking required—just turn up on the day.
Where do you walk – The western half of Surrey and sometimes, West Sussex, east Hampshire or the Chilterns. Members also have free access to walks on offer from other Ramblers groups throughout the UK.
Where do walks start – Most walks are circular starting from a car park although occasionally we have linear walks that generally start from a train station.
Who are group members – Woking Ramblers members are a small and friendly group from a variety of backgrounds.
