Britain’s Favourite Walks: The best from Yorkshire and Humber

With moody dales and moors, and a dramatic coastline, walkers are spoilt for choice with wonderful places to walk in Yorkshire and Humber and we weren’t disappointed with the routes featured in ITV’s Britain’s Favourite Walks: Top 100.

Here are some of our favourites. Complete with walk descriptions, step-by-step instructions and maps, there’s everything you need to head out and walk the routes yourself.

Malham Cove, North Yorkshire

This popular route explores the dramatic landscape of Malham Cove, Gordale Scar, Janet’s Foss Waterfall and Malham Tarn - Britain’s highest lake. Travel through varied terrain and rugged landscapes and be rewarded with beautiful views. 

Whitby, North Yorkshire

Starting in Whitby, this rewarding walk along the dramatic Cleveland Heritage Coast takes you all the way to Cloughton via Robin Hood’s Bay and the quirky village of Ravenscar, with stunning coastal views along the way.

Whernside and Ingleborough

Our route takes in two of Yorkshire's famous three peaks, Whernside and Ingleborough. Admire the fine limestone scenery, the Ribblehead Viaduct and take a short detour to visit one of Yorkshire's best waterfalls.

Brimham Rocks, North Yorkshire

Starting in Pateley Bridge (home to the UK’s oldest sweet shop!), this circular route takes you past the weird and wonderful Brimham Rocks, before looping back to the beginning, offering spectacular valley views along the way. 

Bronte Country

Step back in time and follow in the footsteps of the Bronte sisters. Starting in the historic Haworth Village this route takes you along moorland paths, quiet lanes and ginnels once familiar to the Bronte family.

Bempton Cliffs

Starting at the RSPB Bempton Cliffs, where millions of seabirds gather each year, this circular route takes you via Flamborough Head before cutting inland through the picturesque Flamborough village.

Saltaire, Leeds – Liverpool canal

This leisurely route takes you along a particularly interesting stretch of the Leeds - Liverpool canal; through the World Heritage Site of Saltaire, a beautiful glen, urban woodland and past the Five Rise Locks.
