Delivery Officers x 4

Whether you are leading a project to better understand our groups’ needs, delivering walk leadership training, or supporting volunteers adopt new technologies – delivery officers at the Ramblers will always be busy! If you like managing projects and working with volunteers, this could be a great next step in your career.

About the Ramblers

Here at the Ramblers we’re passionate about helping everyone, everywhere to find their feet and protecting the spaces we all love to walk.

We are Britain's largest walking charity, with 105,000 members and a proud campaigning history.  Volunteers are at the heart of what we do – whether leading one of 55,000 walks which take place every year, creating a library of routes for independent walkers, or looking after footpaths.

But we can’t afford to stand still!  We’re evolving to make sure that we continue to deliver fantastic experiences for walkers and connect with more of the UK’s 9 million walkers.

About the role

Our team is growing!  We’re looking for 4 delivery officers to join the Ramblers team.

The roles will be part of the Ramblers Delivery team, based in:

- 2 x London (permanent & FTC)
- 1 x North – home-based (FTC)
- 1 x South West – home-based (FTC)

With over 600 Ramblers groups and path maintenance teams across Great Britain, it’s vital that we provide the right support, to give our volunteers the skills and confidence they need.

Over the next year the delivery team will lead a number of exciting new projects to expand support for walk leaders, develop our path maintenance activities, and introduce new & innovative digital systems.

On any given day, you might be: leading a project to better understand our groups’ digital needs, working with partners to plan a national training programme, delivering walk leadership training, or supporting volunteers to adopt new technologies and plan exciting, inclusive walks.

There will be some travel involved, to visit local groups and deliver training – including up to 12 weekends.

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone with superb project delivery and development skills, able to provide confident and expert volunteer support across a large, geographically-dispersed network.

You must be a confident communicator – as comfortable demonstrating how to use an app, as speaking on the phone with senior stakeholders, or delivering training to large groups of volunteers.

You will use your skills in project management to develop and test new approaches, based on strong insight and analysis – and not be afraid to question the status quo. You’ll need to be self-motivated and resilient, with strong planning and organisation skills. Collaboration and team-working will be key.

There’s no doubt that change can be challenging sometimes! You will take the lead and bring people along with you – handling tricky conversations in a positive way, with a collaborative, problem-solving approach.

Whether you are delivering learning opportunities for walk leaders, supporting path volunteers to liaise with local authorities, or developing our systems and processes – you will inspire and empower volunteers to carry out their roles.

Essential requirements include:

Excellent communication skills
Experience of successfully managing projects or programmes
A progressive approach to new technology, and the ability to support others to adopt new systems
Experience of designing and delivering training
A proven track record in working with volunteers

If you think you’ve got what it takes to be a delivery officer, we’d love to hear from you!
