Paths Manager

Volunteers are the lifeblood of the Ramblers, delivering our mission in local communities across Great Britain. In a newly formed team, you will lead on the support for our path volunteers as they protect, expand, and improve public rights of way, ensuring that we have a world-class network at a time when walking and access to nature has never been more important.

As Paths Manager, you will:

  •     Ensure consistent, effective, and high-quality support for all our path volunteers

  •     Work with the Head of paths to improve the recording and reporting of the impact of the Paths team and volunteers

  •     Oversee the delivery of improved processes (including digital development) to support our path volunteers

  •     Deliver operational aspects of our Don’t Lose Your Way project as we recruit for thousands more volunteers and roll out guidance and resources

  •     Undertake a review of our support for Path Maintenance volunteers including identifying opportunities for growth and funding options

  •     Manage two volunteer focused members of staff ensuring they get the support they require

Essential requirements include:

  •     Experience of working with, supporting and engaging volunteers or members including improving how volunteers are supported.

  •     A track record of measuring and improving impact within a team or function and of driving improvement in the capturing, dissemination and presenting of data (ideally related to the impact of volunteering action).

  •     Experience of driving effective change and bringing others with you.

  •     Able to build trust in teams, amongst colleagues, with volunteers and external partners.

  •     Excellent communication skills with a proven ability to influence a range of stakeholders including volunteers.

  •     Ability to identify the key issues, frame an issue or argument, manage conflicting viewpoints, and advise on the best course of action.
