Project Manager Mapping Scotland's Paths

Join Britain’s biggest walking charity to help more people enjoy the benefits of walking.

People in Scotland are rightly proud of our world-class landscapes and access rights.
At Ramblers Scotland, we view paths as a vital enabler to help more people access land, yet the mapping of our paths remains inconsistent and incomplete.
Meanwhile, two in five of us still aren’t getting enough exercise, and three-quarters think that more paths on the ground and on maps would help everyone get active.
We believe that making path information more accessible has huge potential to support the nation’s health and wellbeing.
That’s why – as part of our Out There campaign – we’re launching an ambitious project to vastly improve the digital mapping of Scotland path network. It’s called Mapping Scotland’s Paths.
This project aims to bring together disparate datasets on the state of the path network in Scotland in order to form a comprehensive digital geo-stack, with user-experience at its heart, enabling many more people to readily find paths in their local area and beyond.
As Project Manager for Mapping Scotland’s Paths, this role will form a pivotal function within the Mapping Scotland’s Paths project, building and maintaining relationships with external dataset-donators, colleagues in Data & Digital and embed learnings from the proof of concept into advocacy plans for the wider Out There campaign. In addition, the opportunity to learn and test approaches in Scotland will support future developments of our digital platforms at GB level.  The role will be responsible for planning and managing the proof of concept for Mapping Scotland’s Paths, and integrating this into the wider communications and advocacy plans for the Out There campaign.
This is an exciting time to join the Ramblers Scotland team and a great opportunity to make a lasting and tangible impact on the future success of the charity.

Essential Requirements include:
Robust project management experience, delivering projects of scale and over a sustained time-period
Passionate about the value of data and mapping
Experience of managing a complex network of internal and external stakeholders to meet agreed goals
Experience of working within or alongside a campaigning, advocacy or policy-focused organisation
Experience of working in an iterative way, building in learnings from one phase of a project in order to improve the next phase of a project
Experience of developing and managing service-level agreements/data-management agreements
Familiarity with GIS/understanding of geospatial digital tools
Personal knowledge of Scotland’s geography and walking opportunities
Extensive experience of communicating complex ideas to a range of audiences and proven ability to adapt communication style to meet the needs of different audiences
Familiarity with using apps in relation to outdoor opportunities
Able to influence senior level decision makers within and beyond own organisation
Experience of working within a small team of specialists, able to collaborate on practical and strategic aspects of the project, recognising the expertise of other colleagues
