Spring is a fantastic time of year to be active outside and we’re gearing up for a whole week of walking opportunities across Britain during our Get Walking Week festival from 4-11 May. The festival is supporting the Britain on Foot campaign to encourage more people to get active in the great outdoors.
Join the Get Walking Week celebrations at our four launch events in Cardiff, Hillingdon, Broxtowe and Swindon on 4 May featuring short local walks or head along to one of the hundreds of short walks throughout the week-long festival designed to help you get walking and keep walking.
Our local groups will be leading walks of five miles or less, taking in the countryside, cities and the coast across Britain, while Walking for Health, which is run by the Ramblers and Macmillan Cancer Support, invites you to walk with local schemes across England.
Walkers in Wales can also look forward to outdoor family fun over the bank holiday weekend during the Big Welsh Walk and with it being the Year of Natural Scotland, there’s no better time to enjoy Scotland's beautiful surroundings than by getting out for a walk during Get Walking Week.
All the walks on offer will be led by experienced walk leaders, helping you discover the joys of walking and the freedom, fresh air and improved fitness that comes with exploring your local area on foot.
“Walking has so many benefits” says Simon Barnett, Director of Walking Programmes at the Ramblers. “You can improve your physical and mental health, spend time outdoors and enjoy the company of others – and Get Walking Week is a way to encourage people to make a start. We hope that joining one short walk will lead to many more miles in the future.”
So wherever you are in Britain, get involved in Get Walking Week and start taking steps to a healthier, happier you. Find a Get Walking Week walk near you and look out for Get Walking Week updates from us on Twitter.
