From its routes in Lancashire to destinations worldwide, HF Holidays celebrates 100 years of offering walking holidays today as it marks its centenary.
A co-operative owned by its members, HF Holidays was founded by TA Leonard as the Holiday Fellowship to provide holidays for the working people of Lancashire with the aim to promote walking, friendship and an appreciation of the environment – an ethos that remains today.
Leonard was one of the unsung heroes of the outdoor movement, having been President of the Ramblers, one of the founders of the Friends of the Lake District and helping to create the Youth Hostels Association.
“We’re thrilled to be able to wish HF Holidays, our walking holiday partner, a Happy 100th Birthday” says Ramblers Chief Executive Benedict Southworth. “TA Leonard chaired our first national meeting in 1935 so our relationship stretches back a long way. Here’s to another century of great walking opportunities for all.”
HF Holidays has produced a film, looking back over the past 100 years and featuring some of the centenary celebrations, including a royal visit. The centenary has also been marked with a series of special holidays and there will be gala dinner on the exact anniversary on Friday 31 May.
