For over 25 years our volunteers have been leading free, fun and open to everyone group walks through the festive season as part of our annual Festival of Winter Walks and this year is no exception. In fact, there’s even more to get excited about!
There are over a thousand free walks on offer across Britain from 21 December 2013 to 5 January 2014, so whether you’re keen for a merry jaunt on Christmas Eve, a Boxing Day walk to burn off the mince pies or a challenging walk to kick-start the New Year, there are walks to suit everyone.
And for the first time Walking for Health – England’s network of health walks schemes which we with Macmillan Cancer Support – will also be joining in the festival offering short walks designed for anyone new to walking or looking to improve their health.
And if you’re keen to plan your own walk with family and friends there are now over 1500 downloadable Ramblers Routes of all lengths and types in our online library of walking routes, with more being added all the time.
“There is something wonderful about walking over the festive season,” says Ramblers Chief Executive Benedict Southworth. "The company of family and friends, exploring beautiful winter landscapes under clear skies or the fun of being the first to make tracks in the snow, all of these things make getting out and about at this time of year even more of an adventure.”
“Our Festival of Winter Walks is as popular as ever after 25 years,” adds Benedict. “So, put on your winter coats, wrap up warm and join us again as we head out to enjoy the season the way we know best, on our feet.”
We’d love to hear about your wintry walks this festive season – tweet us @RamblersGB or post a photo from your walk on our Facebook page.
