The Redditch Ramblers on another recent walk
The Worcestershire-based group has been adding innovative walks to its programme including a torch lit stroll and a taster walk designed for people new to the Ramblers which also saw them team up with a local farm shop.
Torches in hand, the Redditch Ramblers set out on a four mile circular walk on the evening of Twelfth Night, Sunday 5 January, from the Forge Mill Needle Museum to Arrow Valley Country Park along the River Arrow.
Hopes of a crisp snowy walk on a winter’s night were dampened by the weather but nineteen walkers turned out to support the novel torch lit walk, which the group are planning to run again in the summer.
The New Year was also ushered in with an introductory walk designed to encourage local interest. The group hosted an easy four mile walk on 2 January which included a coffee and cake stop at Becketts Farm Shop in Wythall, which helped publicise the walk and offered a discount.
The group are hoping to develop more partnerships like the one with Becketts Farm Shop to benefit both local businesses and add something extra to the walks they run, with the aim to do a similar walk in the spring.
“We want to encourage and utilise new ideas put forward by our members, which is vital for the future development of the group,” explained Peter Carton, Redditch Ramblers Chairman and Walks Co-ordinator. “We’re then able to use these ideas to promote our walks more widely and demonstrate that we’re open-minded and forward-thinking.”
“Introducing new ideas into our programme seems to have stimulated greater interest and camaraderie among existing members,” added Peter. “The variety on offer helps to meet the needs of existing members whilst also appearing attractive to new and potential members."
Next up the sleeve of the Redditch Ramblers is an Ale and Amble walk and brewery visit. For more details of the walks they offer, search our Group Walks Finder.
