Gift Your Gear is a nationwide initiative which provides young people across the UK with outdoor clothing and equipment so they can get outside and explore the great outdoors for their physical and emotional wellbeing.
Teaming up with community organisations, youth groups and charities working with young people in the outdoors, Gift Your Gear gives unwanted kit including walking trousers, poles, maps and guides and rucksacks a new home with the next generation of outdoor enthusiasts.
The TGO Award winning initiative is helping 150 local projects across the UK – including Duke of Edinburgh Award schemes and Scouts and Girl Guides groups – give young people the gear they need to enjoy the outdoors.
Donations of good quality clothing and equipment mean young people who receive the kit can experience the fun and fresh air of outdoor activities like walking and camping while keeping warm, dry, comfortable and safe.
You can donate unwanted gear by post or find out about Gift Your Gear events . Donations should be clean and reusable, for example tents should be complete and clothing shouldn’t need repairs. A full list of the types of gear accepted can be found at giftyourgear.com.
If you’re keen to encourage other people to give their gear a great new home there are resources to help spread the word available on the Gift Your Gear website too. As Gift Your Gear says, outdoor gear is ‘born to be worn, not stitched to be ditched’!
