Get ready for the Festival of Winter Walks

Winter walking

Thanks to you, our volunteers, we’ve been running our popular Festival of Winter Walks for over 25 years. The festival is a great opportunity to get outside and see Britain at its wintry best and even kick start those New Year’s resolutions.

Our festivals are the time we invite new people to experience the fun of walking with us, and we know our groups will extend the same festive welcome during this year’s Festival of Winter Walks as they have done in previous years.

So what’s new this year? We’ll be offering people looking for short walks the option to join a Walking for Health walk in England during the festival and we’ll also be encouraging people to discover the walking routes which volunteers have been creating.

It couldn’t be easier to get involved. If your group is running a walk between Saturday 21 December 2013 and Sunday 5 January 2014 it’ll automatically get included in the festival if it’s been uploaded to the Group Walks Finder – it’s that simple.

If your group doesn’t yet use the Group Walks Finder why not find out how to get started. You’ll find helpful guidance, templates for uploading walks and details of how to request a username and password in the Group Walks Finder toolkit.

You’ll also be able to help promote the festival near you by sending a press release to your local paper or by customising your own festival poster to advertise your group’s walks in places like libraries, cafes or community centres.

We won’t be producing packs for the Festival of Winter Walks this year, but press release and poster templates to download and other information you’ll need are now available in the Festivals and events toolkit.

The festival is still three months away so there’s plenty of time to get your group’s walks onto the Group Walks Finder (and perhaps plan a few extras) and spread the word to encourage members and new walkers in your area to join in.

We’re looking forward to another fantastic festival with hundreds of walks on offer across Britain, so thank you in advance for all your help and support in making it happen. If you have any questions about the festival don’t hesitate to contact us at
