We took a walk along the Ridgeway National Trail in Berkshire with Richard Benyon MP, farmer and former DEFRA Minister, to discuss the future of England’s cherished long-distance paths and other countryside issues.
“We had a great walk with Richard high up on the Ridgeway, with wonderful commanding views,” said Ramblers CEO Benedict Southworth. “As a National Trail the Ridgeway is one of England’s treasures, drawing in thousands of walkers and tourists every year.”
“We discussed the value of National Trails and why we believe it’s important to give them the support they need,” added Benedict. “The Ramblers is calling for the establishment of a true national champion for National Trails to ensure they’re protected for future generations.”
“I look forward to continuing my relationship with the Ramblers, assisting them in promoting some of the most beautiful parts of the constituency to a wider audience” said Benyon following the walk near Streatley on 17 January.
“We should all feel very fortunate to have this stunning part of the country,” he added. “I would encourage everyone to find the time to spend a few hours in the great outdoors. Not only are there clear health benefits, but it is highly enjoyable.”
