The Festival of Winter Walks has run annually for roughly 30 years, taking place over Christmas and New Year, encouraging people to go walking at a time of year when many people stay inside and over indulge.
Delivering festival walks during this busy period is not without challenges, particularly as the bad weather can discourage walkers from venturing out. However - thanks to the many fantastic and special walks delivered by our hardy volunteers - the festival remains a popular highlight in the Ramblers calendar.
Over recent months we’ve been working with volunteers to think about how we can build on the success and legacy of the festival, and we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has contributed to this conversation and shared their thoughts. We are keen to continue our 30 year tradition of celebrating the holidays on foot with the Ramblers.
This year’s Festival of Winter Walks will take place from Friday 21 December 2018 to Sunday 6 January 2019.
This year we will not be asking volunteers to host any extra or special walks. We will build on the national conversation currently taking place around loneliness, showing how walking with the Ramblers is a great solution to one of the nation’s most pressing problems. As in previous years, all walks taking place during the festival period that are uploaded to our website will be badged as festival walks and used to promote the festival.
More information and guidance will be shared by email.
We know that many of you take part in the Festival every year and do have plans for special walks during the holiday season as part of your annual walks programme. If this applies to you, we would love to hear from you so we can help promote your walks. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org to let us know about your planned winter walks.
